Recovery score

Definition
A composite daily score, produced by a wearable, that summarises how well rested and prepared a person's body appears to be for demanding activity.

A recovery score is usually built from several overnight signals together, most commonly heart rate variability, resting heart rate, sleep duration and sleep quality. Different wearables calculate it slightly differently, but the underlying idea is the same: to give a single, quick read on how much a body has bounced back from recent demands.

Recovery scores are widely used in sport, where they help athletes decide how hard to train on a given day. The same logic applies to knowledge work, even though the demands are cognitive rather than physical: a low recovery score is a reasonable prompt to protect focus time or move a difficult conversation, rather than to schedule the hardest meeting of the week.

Sloane reads recovery scores from Oura today, and from Whoop and Apple Watch as those integrations complete late beta. It treats a meaningful drop against a person's own baseline as one signal to weigh alongside calendar load and team-tool metadata, not as an instruction on its own.

It is worth noting that a recovery score reflects the body, not the calendar. Sloane's contribution is to connect the two, so that a low recovery day that coincides with a demanding schedule gets a specific, useful suggestion, rather than being visible only as two separate numbers.
